Annapolis dentist Dr. Dave Samson helped several other dentists from around the state providing free care for hundreds in need during the annual Mission of Mercy in Western Maryland.
The Mission of Mercy is a two-day, free dental clinic in Cumberland for adults aged 19 or over who can't afford dental care.
Some patients slept in their car overnight to receive the care in the morning, Samson said.
One man, a 30-year-old father had neglected his own dental health to pay for his children's needs, along with a 70-year-old man whose mouth was full of severely broken teeth. Both were among Samson's most memorable patients during this trip on the Mission to Mercy, he said.
“Each time I participate in a Mission of Mercy event I wonder who takes away more from the experience, me or the patient. What they don’t realize is the time I spend with them is equally rewarding for me,” Samson said.
