Adidas is the largest sportswear manufacturer in Europe and second in the world only to Nike. The company was founded in 1924 by Adolf (Adi) Dassler and his brother, Rudolf Dassler, in Germany. At the summer Olympics in 1935, Adolf Dassler went with a suitcase full of spikes and convinced U.S. sprinter Jesse Owens to use them, which resulted in the first sponsorship for an African American. After Owens won four gold medals, the interest was piqued amongst the world's most famous sportsmen. Adidas today is more than just shoes, with sports equipment and clothing lines also available. The Adidas store is located in the West Atrium in the Westfield Annapolis Mall.
