Included on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 and the Annapolis Historic District Register since 1971, the Banneker-Douglass Museum is dedicated to preserving Maryland's African-American heritage. The museum opened its doors in 1984 in the former Mt. Moriah African Methodist Episcopal Church. In the recently expanded space, one can find permanent artifacts and historical facts about the museum's namesakes Benjamin Banneker and Frederick Douglass, as well as other American historic figures.
