The Office of the Secretary of State is located in the Jeffrey Building, overlooking State Circle in Annapolis's Historic District. John P. McDonough serves as Maryland's Secretary of State, and he has held the office since July of 2008. It is the responsibility of the office to administer the state's notary public laws and to keep and protect the Great Seal of Maryland. The Office of the Secretary of State also provides Maryland citizens with any necessary information they need before making decisions about donating to charities.
