The Maryland Commission for Women was established in 1971 by the Maryland Legislature with the goal of promotingMore social, political and economic equality for all Maryland women. One particular goal of the Commission is to offer information to Maryland women and girls with publications about issues, including rights, events, organizations, legislation and a resource directory of the community.</p> <p>The Commission's programs include the <a href="http://dhr.maryland.gov/mcw/mwhf.php">Maryland Women's Hall of Fame</a>, <a href="http://dhr.maryland.gov/mcw/wta.php">Women of Tomorrow Awards</a>, <a href="http://dhr.maryland.gov/mcw/whm.php">Maryland Women's History Month</a>, and <a href="http://dhr.maryland.gov/mcw/heritage.php">Maryland Women's Heritage Center</a>, as well as the Maryland Commission for Women <a href="http://dhr.maryland.gov/mcw/committees.php">Committees</a>. Local commissions hold monthly meetings and host workshops.</p>

It offers classes for all levels of students, as well as performances in Maryland Hall, St. John's College, the Avalon Theater in Easton and other venues across the state. The ballet school has branches on the Eastern Shore and in the Chesapeake Arts center in Brooklyn, MD. There is a wide range of classes for children and adults interested in the art of dance.

Classical music lovers can rejoice: There is no need to go to Baltimore or Washington, DC. The AnnapolisMore Symphony Orchestra has been bringing the finest in classical music to Annapolis since 1961.</p> <p>Although the orchestra is located at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, it performs all over Annapolis, in venues such as its annual concert with the Naval Academy Orchestra. The orchestra is involved in many outreach programs and community education events. Its holiday pops concert is always a favorite.</p>
