First played in 2008, the bowl was previously played in RFK Stadium.
The Military Bowl is moving to military property. According to a report in The Capital Gazette, an agreement will be announced Monday to move the college football game from to the U.S Naval Academy's Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, starting with this year's game on Dec. 27. Sponsor Northrop Grumman historically gives 5,000 tickets to each Military Bowl to military personnel, according to the report, which also states a "military village" will be set up in the stadium parking lot to promote American armed forces. The game was previously played at RFK Stadium in Washington, DC. Navy played the inaugural game—then called the EagleBank Bowl—in 2008, losing to Wake Forest by a score of 29-19. Wayne Lukas the all-time lead in Triple Crown race victories with 14. The bay colt, ridden by 50-year old Gary Stevens and owned by Calumet Farm, took the lead early from Goldencents and won the $1 million Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown by 1 ¾ lengths holding off Itsmyluckyday and Mylute in 1:57.54. Oxbow also ended hopes for a Triple Crown winner for another year. Orb, the winner of the Kentucky Derby, never got started from his No. 1 post position and finished a disappointing fourth. "I get paid to spoil dreams," Lukas said after the race. "You can’t mail it in, it’s a different surface, a different …

The college will host the 31st annual match and festivities Saturday on the front lawn.
Players from St. John's College and the U.S. Naval Academy gathered on the lawn at the college Tuesday for practice in preparation for the weekend's big croquet match. The college will host the 31st annual match Saturday between the two institutions on the front lawn in what has become a local rite of spring. The winner will take home the coveted Annapolis Cup. The "Johnnies" have taken the cup home 25 times out of the last 30 games. Drew Menzer, St. John's imperial wicket or team captain, said his team has gathered a variety of players who enjoy taking competitive risks. Their strategy this year relies on some outside-the-box thinking, he said. "We practice aggressive, difficult, high-risk plays, and often choose the one that has the …

A former marine and Naval Academy graduate who ran in the Boston Marathon already is planning his next big race.
Runner Mosi Smith, who returned home safe from the Boston Marathon on Monday, already is back to work at Fleet Feet Sports in downtown Annapolis, less than 24 hours after the explosions. Smith, a former marine, and a triathlete, said he and his teammates in the U.S. Naval Academy Marathon Team had completed their runs by the time he heard about the explosion. They were all celebrating several blocks away when the attack occurred. While on the phone with a fellow runner, Smith said his friend heard the explosion and hung up. Smith then went outside and saw the chaos in the streets. "My main concern definitely was just ensuring the midshipmen were all accounted for and OK—and they were. We all got back around 3 a.m.," Smith said. Three …

Mike Gimbel, a local runner who has run the marathon eight times, said today's explosions hit the most crowded portion of the course. Click here for video of the explosions.
An explosion Monday at the Boston Marathon came at the worst place at the worst time, according to a Maryland runner who has participated in the prestigious race numerous times. Mike Gimbel, who has run the Boston Marathon eight of the last 10 years, said the area of the explosion near Boylston Street is one of the most populated areas. "The majority of the fans and police are located in that area," said Gimbel. "There's 23,000 runners and everyone is there, some times 100 deep, trying to see their loved ones finishing the race. It's the place to be; it's the highlight of the race." Gimbel was scheduled to run the race again this year but withdrew after a leg injury. "I've run it so much, the last time I was there I knew where the potholes…
