Annapolis Honors Its Former Sanitation Workers

As trash collection in Annapolis is turned over to Bates, the city took a moment to honor its former sanitation workers at Monday night's council meeting.

Twenty of Annapolis' former solid waste employees were honored with a community leadership award at Monday night's City Council meeting. "It's really one of the most thankless jobs we have in the city," said David Jarrell, the director of Public Works. The Martha Wood Leadership Award is a monthly honor from the Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis, and it's conferred upon citizens who work to make "our Housing Authority communities better." Annapolis City Council Changes Its Meeting Time

Council voted 7-2 in favor of moving the start time for regular council meetings from 7:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Both of Annapolis City Council's monthly meetings will now start at the same time thanks to a 7-2 vote Monday night. Regular meetings, which are held on the second Monday of each month, have traditionally started at 7:30 p.m. While special meetings held on the fourth Monday have started at 7 p.m. Mayor Josh Cohen co-sponsored legislation to unify the meeting times. He said having one start time for all city council meetings would provide consistency and predictability for Annapolis residents. Alderman Fred Paone (R-2nd Ward) said it also would hopefully allow council to take important votes a little earlier in the evening.  But Alderman Kenneth Kirby (D-6th Ward) and Alderwoman Classie Hoyle (D-3rd Ward) disagreed. Kirby said 7:30 p.m. …
