The city of Annapolis, along with the National Sailing Center & Hall of Fame, is seeking organizations to participate in the fair on May 11-12.
Local nonprofits will be given the opportunity to showcase its organizations and recruit volunteers during a fair at City Dock in May. The city of Annapolis, in cooperation with the National Sailing Center & Hall of Fame (NSHOF), is seeking a variety of different organizations to participate in this year’s fair. "Too often, the excellent nonprofit organizations that serve our city operate sight unseen,” said Mayor Joshua Cohen in a release. “This City Fair offers us a chance to showcase them. Through nonprofit participation in the City Fair, our residents and visitors can learn more about the services offered and the organizations participating can attract needed volunteers to their programs.” There will not be a charge for participants …

A local organization has painted the town red. Not literally, but Annapolis-based Heart Health Foundation is making its message loud and clear. That message—awareness of heart and vascular disease—can't be missed, whether it's the banners in downtown Annapolis, at Annapolis Towne Centre or events at area schools and businesses. Like other months that are designated to bring awareness of particular diseases, February has become synonymous with heart disease. The pleas came during a public hearing regarding the fiscal year 2013 operating budget.
Larry Griffin was a drug addict for 28 years and has spent time living on the streets. "I know what it feels like to have nobody out there," he said. Griffin was one of several nonprofit leaders to plead with the Annapolis City Council to continue funding community grants Monday night. Griffin is now the head of We Care and Friends, a center for assistance, classes, counseling and community events based out of Stanton Community Center.
