Annapolis High Panthers Falter in Season Opener

The Arundel Wildcats defeated the Annapoils Panthers 42-6 at their season opener in Annapolis.

The Annapolis High School Panthers kicked off their 2012 football season with a humbling 42-6 loss to the Arundel High Wildcats on Friday night.  The Wildcats seized the momentum from the start and held Annapolis scoreless for the first three quarters while racking up a 35-0 lead. Arundel scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and a third in the second quarter. While the Panthers faltered with only 93 yards of total offense in the first half. Annapolis entered the locker room behind 21-0 at the break. HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Annapolis Teams Earn Byes

The Annapolis High School basketball teams will both begin their state title march next week.

The Annapolis High basketball teams each earned favorable draws in the MPSSAA Class 3A state tournament, which kicks off Friday. Both the girls and boys squads earned first-round byes. The boys grabbed the third seed in the east region and will host the winner of J.M. Bennett and Hammond in the second round Feb. 28. The girls earned the fourth seed and will host the winner of Mount Hebron and Stephen Decatur on Feb. 27. Nearly all local public school teams have qualified for the state tournament. Teams from Anne Arundel County will play in the Class 4A East Region, with the exception of Northeast and Annapolis who are Class 3A.
