Paladar Celebrates Birthday With Free Guacamole

The Latin American restaurant in the Annapolis Towne Centre at Parole is turning 2, and it is celebrating on Thursday with free food, half-price drinks and complimentary glasses.

Paladar Latin Kitchen and Rum Bar will celebrate its second birthday by giving away presents to its customers all day Thursday. Patrons to the restaurant's location in the Annapolis Towne Centre at Parole can eat a free serving of guacamole, drink half-priced mojitos and go home with a free Paladar rum snifter if they order a glass neat or on the rocks, said Paladar's General Manager Ean Carroll. The bar boasts 50 different varieties of rum ranging in price from $5.96 to $29.95 per glass. Carroll recommended that brandy and cognac drinkers try his favorite aged rum called Zaya. For people who traditionally shy away from drinks served straight up, Carroll suggested the Ron Atlantico Private Cask because it's smoother with less of an alcohol…

GUESS THE RESTAURANT: Vegetarian Chili

How well do you know Annapolis restaurants?

Annapolis has dozens of great restaurants, and I'm enjoying getting to explore them all. I thought it would be fun to see how well locals know the dining in their own backyard.  Guess the Restaurant is a weekly feature that publishes Sunday mornings, featuring a dish from a restaurant around town. It's up to you to figure out where I ate. The answer will be posted the following Sunday. Last Sunday I posted a picture of a baked potato , which came from Potato Valley on State Circle.  I think this lunch spot is pretty popular because several people guessed correctly. Aurore L, Michele H. and Deb Daly guessed correctly on the website, and Paula Fish guessed correctly on Annapolis Patch's Facebook page. If you're not a fan of Annapolis Patch…

It's up to you to figure out where I ate. The answer will be posted at the top of the following Sunday's post. Last Sunday I posted a picture of a seafood flatbread, which came from Metropolitan Kitchen & Lounge on West Street.  Congratulations are due to Jason Wilder and Ruth who guessed correctly. Melissa Morgan guessed correctly on Annapolis Patch's Facebook page. If you're not a fan of Annapolis Patch on Facebook—and you really should be—you can like us by clicking here…

GUESS THE RESTAURANT: Seafood Flatbread

How well do you know Annapolis restaurants?

In our spare time, my husband and I like to consider ourselves amateur chefs. He gravitates towards the savory, and I specialize in the sweet. But we both love good food prepared by people who are passionate about what they do. That's why—as the editor of Annapolis Patch—I'm continuing with the "Guess the Restaurant" feature. It's a weekly feature that publishes Sunday mornings, featuring a dish from a restaurant around town. It's up to you to figure out where I ate. The answer will be posted at the top of the following Sunday's post. Last Sunday I posted a picture of a chicken sandwich, which came from Pussers Caribean Grille at 80 Compromise Street.  Congratulations to Dede Binder and Daniel Lawrence who each guessed correctly. Alison …

Annapolis Mall Sues Restaurant for Unpaid Rent

Lawsuit alleges McCormick & Schmick’s owes the mall for unpaid rent and late fees.

McCormick & Schmick’s closed its doors in January at the Westfield Annapolis mall location but the seafood restaurant reportedly still owes thousands in unpaid rent. The Capital reported that the mall is suing the restaurant chain for $125,000 in unpaid rent and late fees. The lawsuit was filed on May 15 in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court, according to online court records. In January, Patch reported that McCormick & Schmick’s closed the location at Westfield Annapolis mall after it was purchased by Landry's Restaurants Inc. Christi Wallace, marketing director at Westfield Annapolis, told Patch in January that the restaurant had a long-term lease and mall officials are working on finding another tenant for the location. Sweet Hearts Patisserie Celebrates Grand Opening

The bakery at Clock Tower Place promises a taste of France in Annapolis.

Macaroons, petit fours, cake pops—these are just a few of the delecatable offerings at a new Annapolis bakery. Sweet Hearts Patisserie celebrated its grand opening on Saturday morning at 1410 Forest Dr. in Clock Tower Place, according to a news release. "As the name might suggest, there is a lot of love that goes into each and every pastry at Sweet Hearts," said Kristen D'Angelo, owner and pastry chef, in the release. "My philosophy is that it is always better to enjoy a small bite of something heavenly than it is to eat way too much of something that is just OK. That is the basis of all my creations, and I hope that every person who eats one my pastries enjoys it thoroughly." The French-themed pastry shop also operated as a catering …

GUESS THE RESTAURANT: Bacon-Wrapped Fillet

How well do you know Annapolis restaurants?

Congrats to Patch readers Petra Clingenpeel and Ashley for correctly guessing that the guacamole burger from the last "Guess the Restaurant" challenge was from The Metro Diner. We had several correct answers on the Annapolis Patch Facebook page as well. The Metro Diner focuses on fast, fresh and local cuisine, according to its website. Menu items include burgers, shakes and healthy tacos. Now, can you tell me where this bacon-wrapped fillet is from? The 11-oz cut is resting atop an heirloom tomato salad seasoned with cracked black pepper and pink Himalayan salt. Share your guesses in the comments section below and I'll reveal the answer when "Guess the Restaraunt" returns for another round.

Readers' Choice: Mother's Day Brunch at Carrol's Creek Cafe

The Annapolis restaurant beat out its next closest competitor in the Mother's Day brunch competition by just one vote.

Tradition and familiarity are what keep customers coming back to Carrol's Creek Cafe, said Richard McClure, general manager of the restaurant. "We've been around for almost 30 years," McClure said. "People know what they're going to get." The eatery, located at 410 Severn Ave., was chosen by Patch readers as the best spot for Mother's Day brunch in Annapolis. Carrol's Creek beat out Chart House, the second-place finisher, by just one vote and claimed 27 percent of the vote overall. "I'm very happy that the readers chose us," McClure said. The all-you-can-eat Sunday brunch buffet at the waterfront restaurant is a popular feature. It includes classic brunch staples but also has a weekly rotation of three or four speciality dishes such as …

Crab Cake Cafe Puts Twist on Classic Favorite

The restaurant is scheduled to open in late-May on Riva Road.

Local flavors with a twist. That's what Catherine Witt, executive chef of the upcoming Crab Cake Cafe, hopes to accomplish with her new restaurant concept. Witt plans to serve crab cake sandwiches—a Maryland favorite—but include flavors from different regions across the country. For example, the New Orleans sandwich will have andouille sausage, okra red onion, green bell pepper and a spicy remoulade sauce. "The idea is to change up the flavor of a typical crab cake but still stay true to Maryland," Witt said. But purists shouldn't worry. The traditional crab cake with tarter or cocktail sauce is still on the menu. Witt, a 15-year restaurant industry veteran, described the service style as "fast casual" but added that the food is anything …
