Dunkin Donuts in Annapolis Robbed at Gunpoint

The location on Riva Road was held up for an undisclosed amount of cash on Saturday.

A Dunkin Donuts clerk was robbed at gunpoint around 5 p.m. on Saturday, according to Anne Arundel County police. A man reportedly walked into the Dunkin Donuts at 2641 Riva Rd. and handed the clerk a note that demanded money from the cash register. The clerk told police that the man then displayed a handgun. The clerk gave the man an undisclosed amount of cash, and he then reportedly fled the scene on foot.

Police Call School Shooting Threats Unfounded

Students may notice increased security at schools on Friday, the superintendent said.

Rumors spread on social media of planned school shootings at Anne Arundel County public schools have all been investigated and found to be not credible, police said at a press conference on Wednesday. Lt. J.D. Batten, who is charge of school security, said some shooting rumors have come from students saying they heard it from others.  He said a student at an Anne Arundel County school texted a friend: "Don't go to school on Friday because I heard there was going to be a shooting." Within a few hours, Anne Arundel County police officers were interviewing the student, asking her where she heard the information.  "As it turned out, it was just, 'I heard from somebody else a rumor that this was going to happen,' so it was completely unfounded…

Anne Arundel Police Heighten School Security After Connecticut Shooting

A gunman reportedly shot and killed 27 people at an elementary school in Connecticut.

UPDATE (4:10 p.m.)—In the wake of news that a gunman reportedly shot and killed 27 people at an elementary school in Connecticut, Anne Arundel County police boosted security at all public schools Friday afternoon prior to dismissal. According to Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) spokesman Bob Mosier, a county police officer was stationed at every school during dismissal. He also said security will remain heightened as children arrive at their schools Monday morning. The shooting occurred Friday morning in Newtown, CT. Newtown Patch is on the scene near the school, providing live updates and breaking news. Severn Woman Killed in Accident in Annapolis

Ajia Marketta Owens, 18, died after being struck at the intersection of Solomons Island Road and West Street.

A young woman from Severn has died after being struck by a Jeep Wrangler in when trying to cross a street in Annapolis Friday night. Anne Arundel County Police responded to the crash at around 9:40 p.m. near the intersection of Solomons Island Road (Maryland Route 2) and West Street. Police said that Ajia Marketta Owens, 18, was trying to cross Solomons Island Road, from east to west, on the north side of the intersection at West Street. While trying to cross, she ran in front of two vehicles traveling northbound on Solomons Island Road. One driver managed to narrowly avoid hitting Owens, police said, but the driver of a Jeep Wrangler was unable to avoid her, striking her with the right front corner of the Jeep. Police Seek Suspect in Drug Store Thefts

County and city police are both looking for the man in these photographs.

Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Police are searching for a man in connection with a series of thefts from area drug stores. County police said the man in the photographs robbed the Rite Aid at 2027 West St. on Dec. 2. The clerk told police that the man entered the store around 9:30 p.m. When she asked if he needed help, the man reportedly said, "yeah, just give me everything in the register." This isn't the first time someone has robbed the West Street Rite Aid. In October, a man stole an undisclosed amount of money from the register after displaying a hand gun. City police said they are also seeking him for questioning in connection with at least four thefts from the CVS locations on 975 Bay Ridge Ave. and 503 South Cherry Grove that …

Annapolis Woman Dies After Crash in Odenton

Police are seeking the driver of a four-door Chevrolet Silverado truck who left the scene after the crash.

A 27-year-old Annapolis woman died from injuries sustained in a crash Sunday night on Annapolis Road in Odenton, according to Anne Arundel County police. Danielle Stitely, of 53-½ Cornhill St., died at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, according to a police press release issued Monday morning. The driver of the other car involved in the accident reportedly fled the scene. Battalion Chief Steve Thompson of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department said the crash happened at about 8:20 p.m. Sunday at the 1100 block of Annapolis Road. There were two vehicles involved: a four-door Chevrolet Silverado truck and a Lexus sedan. My comments were not to be racist, if you think that then I apologize. Currently the law stops the honest person from having guns, so the criminals have an edge, let the honest person have a gun and the crime will drop as for the criminals will think twice about robbing you.   more ›

Man Robs 7-Eleven on Defense Highway at Gunpoint

Police say a man made off with an undisclosed amount of money from the register.

A man reportedly used a gun to rob the 7-Eleven on Defense Highway early Saturday morning, according to Anne Arundel County Police. Officers responded to the convenience store around 1:55 a.m. on Saturday for a report of an armed robbery. Police said the man approached the counter, displayed a gun and demanded money. The clerk told police she gave the man an undisclosed amount of cash from the register, and then the suspect fled in an unknown direction. Police described the suspect as a white man, between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, 150 to 180 pounds, and wearing black shoes with green soles.
