Arundel on the Bay residents met with BGE representatives to try and find solutions to what they see as frequent power outage problems.
Representatives from Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) spent a few hours on Tuesday morning working to repair its relationship with residents from Arundel on the Bay. "There is a part of me that's really incredulous," resident Tim Hamilton said. "I've never lived in a place where people buy generators like they live in a third world country." Arundel on the Bay customers have experienced sustained outages—meaning longer than five minutes—29 times since 2006 while neighboring communities like Hillsmere Shores have lost power just 5 times, according to statistics compiled by BGE. During June's derecho storm many community members commiserated about being out of power for up to six days. These extended outages pose additional complications for…

The couple were married for 23 years and had no children together but Surrick had three children from a previous marriage, according to the Washington Post. Neighbor Debbie Zeman said the couple was always very friendly. "They used to stop and say hello; they enjoyed the kids," Zeman said. Zeman lived two doors down from the couple. "I heard the fire trucks and stepped outside of my door; then I heard the crackling," Zeman said. "It looked like their whole backyard was …

Parents and children brave a chilly Sunday evening to donate gifts for those less fortunate.
The annual Annapolis Santa Run toy drive Sunday evening was a decidely different event from last year. "Murphy was really against us last year," organizer John Muhitch said in reference to Murphy's law. "If it could have gone wrong, it did." Last year, it poured down rain. Two fire trucks broke down during the run and another two got stuck in mud, he said. But this year, it was reportedly a great success. "It was a very good night for everyone," Muhitch said. He said a stop in Arundel on the Bay was a new stop this year, and ended up being one of the most popular with about 120 people. In Hillsmere, more than 50 parents and kids enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies as they waited for Santa to arrive in an Annapolis fire truck. The toy drive, …

Leaves will start changing their color during the next two weeks in Greater Annapolis.
The rich colors of fall foliage were a rare sight on the Annapolis Neck Peninsula on Tuesday afternoon. While the Bay Ridge Marina boasted several trees decked in gold, a green canopy still covered Bay Ridge's Herndon Avenue. Red and orange leaves shaded the community pier in Arundel on the Bay, but most other trees there were holding green. Keep your eyes open because those green leaves will change quickly, advises the Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Visitors' Bureau. The fall foliage in Greater Annapolis should peak in the next two weeks. With temperatures falling into the 60s and rain in the forecast, brilliant autumnal shades should blanket the area soon. Not waiting for nature to redecorate, Greater Annapolis residents started …
