Cost of 5 Common Grocery Items in Greater Annapolis

Patch compared the prices of some kitchen staples at three local grocery stores.

It's hard not to notice the rising cost of food and wonder how one grocery store stacks up against another when comparing prices. Patch visited three local stores and recorded the prices of five popular items: 2 percent milk, butter (lightly salted), large eggs, peanut butter and bread (whole wheat). It's advisable for shoppers to keep tabs on what they pay for groceries because the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) expects food prices to increase this year. "Food inflation is predicted to accelerate during the first half of 2011, leading to a forecast of 2 to 3 percent food price inflation in 2011," according to the USDA website.
