Dwyer Admits Using 'Alcohol to Cope,' Enters Treatment Program

In a message to his Facebook supporters, Del. Don Dwyer admitted that his alcohol usage contributed to an August 2012 boat crash on the Magothy River.

Embattled Del. Don Dwyer (R-Pasadena) has admitted to having a drinking problem and has voluntarily undergone treatment. "In the past year I have faced both personal and professional challenges that were extremely difficult for me. As a result, and regrettably so, I turned to alcohol to cope," Dwyer wrote in a Facebook post. "As many of you know, this culminated in a serious boat accident in August when the boat I was operating was struck by another vessel." Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) charged Dwyer in December with operating a vessel while under the influence of alcohol in connection with the Aug. 22 crash. I still cannot believe Dwyer is still allowed to draw a salary. He should have been immediately arrested just like anyone else would have been. Post bail just like anyone else. Drunk and stupid...Is that the type of people who represent us. Maybe someone should look into how his father Donald got away in a sting at the old Friendship Park for being caught in a homosexual sting. Maybe Jr. Pulled …   more ›

NRP charged Dwyer with operating a vessel while under the influence of alcohol, which requires him to appear in court and carries a maximum penalty of $1,000 fine and/or one year in prison for the first offense. Dwyer Thanks Supporters on Facebook After Boat Crash

Del. Don Dwyer thanked people "who have supported me with your prayers and comments" after he admitted to drinking before crashing his boat last week.

Anne Arundel County Del. Don Dwyer (R- Pasadena) took to Facebook Thursday night to thank his supporters who have stood by him after he admitted to drinking before he crashed his boat earlier this month. The post reads: "I just want to thank all of you who have supported me with your prayers and comments. I have a long road in front of me but I assure you, I will make it past this earthly trial. Please keep me and those injured in your prayers." It's the first public comments made by Dwyer since the Republican held a press conference the day after the crash where he admitted to drinking and appeared to confirm his blood alcohol content was above the legal .08 level. "No one, no one should be drinking and operating a motor vehicle or power …
