AMS earned an award from the Anne Arundel County Food Bank for being one of the top 10 schools in the county for last year's contribution totaling 3,408 pounds of food and donations, according to AMS Social Worker Lisa Keough. This year, Keough said the students surpassed the goal of collecting a total of 5,000 pounds with 2,244 pounds of actual food and $361 in monetary donations (since $…

Hardware Store Gives 'Cash for Schools'

K&B True Value in Annapolis donates $475 to local schools.

Some local parents helped raise money for Annapolis schools just by going to their neighborhood hardware store, K&B True Value on the corner of Forest Drive and Bay Ridge Avenue. The store offered an extra incentive for parents to purchase home improvement and landscaping supplies by donating part of the sales to schools. As part of the Cash for Schools program, K&B True Value gave a percentage of the purchases to local schools when parents and other members of the community used a coupon through Oct. 31. "We started the school donation program as a way to give back to the communities that support us," said Jared Littmann of K&B True Value in an e-mail. "By linking the amount of our donation to the degree to which customers shop our store…
