Celebrate Spring 2013 in Annapolis

Rita's Gives Away Ice for First Day of Spring

The annual freebie event is the unofficial start to spring.

Tuesday was the first day of spring and as usual Rita's Italian Ice celebrated by offering regular sized ices. The throng of people packing the parking lot outside of Rita's on Bay Ridge Road in Annapolis was steady throughout the day. Many of the customers were even opting to pay a little extra for that all-important shot of custard. The event is in the 19th year for Rita's across the country, according to the company's website. Officials said the sweet shop gave away more than 1.2 million cups of ice last year across its locations on the first day of spring. Did you get your free cup? What's your favorite mixture?
