Here's some tips to help keep everyone safe and happy to keep the focus on eating mounds of candy.
Halloween is all about candy. And there's one tried and true way to come into a lot of it—trick-or-treating. There's also a lot of prep work involved, with weeks preparing just the right costume...and finding a sack big enough to carry your haul. But those dark streets, coupled with large groups of kids out and about, encumbered by costumes, could make for a dangerous situation. Between 4 and 10 p.m. on Halloween, there's also a significant increase in falls, burn-related injuries, and pedestrian injuries, according to a release from the Prince George's County Fire Department. Children are four and a half times more likely to be hit by a car on Halloween than on any other night during the year, according to the release. Patch spoke with …

Located off of Route 175, Bennett's Curse has turned scaring people into a science.
Residents of Anne Arundel County looking for a fright this Halloween need to look no further than their own backyard. Just across the Severn line in Jessup sits the No. 1 ranked haunted house in Maryland, according to HauntWorld.com. Operated by brothers Allan Bennett and Tony Bennett, Bennett's Curse Haunted Attraction draws more than 20,000 guests a season and employs around 70 actors, make-up artists and support staff. "We've been putting on masks and scaring people since we were 8 and 9 years old," said Tony Bennett, who manages a supermarket when he's not scaring the pants off people. The giant tent-like structure houses three attractions: "The House of Vampyres," "The Zombie Kingdom in 3-D" and "The Sanctuary of Insanity." Some of…

In addition, you get to stay up past your bed time and wander around the neighborhood after dark with your friends. But what would happen if the grownups intervened and made Halloween always fall on a Saturday? They'd do it, of course, for grown-up reasons. Things like not getting to bed on time on a school night (boo!). Being tired at school the next day (GRRRR). People commuting home from work around the time trick-or-treaters start, making pedestrian accidents more likely. But that is what some cities and towns are doing—moving Halloween to the…
