Alderman Littmann Becomes First Candidate in City Election

Jared Littman assumed the Ward 5 seat in January, following the resignation of former alderman Mathew Silverman in November.

Ward 5 Alderman Jared Littmann has announced his intent to campaign as an incumbent for his seat in the 2013 Annapolis city election. Littmann, who owns the K&B True Value hardware store on Forest Drive, took over the Ward 5 seat in January for former Alderman Mathew Silverman, who resigned on Nov. 30.  Reached by phone Tuesday, Littmann said he feels he's over the learning curve of life as an alderman, and wants to continue serving his ward for a full term in office. "I found that I've been able to balance my full-time job and be available to my kids, coach their teams, be home in time for bedtime stories ... and still do a good job as alderman," Littmann said. "I think some of that initial crush has weaned off a little bit. I can kind of…

The high tide closed streets around City Dock and one side of the Eastport Bridge. No. 2—VIDEO: Massive Power Outages Near Annapolis More than 68,000 homes and businesses throughout Anne Arundel County lost power Thursday night after a downed high-voltage transmission line near Bestgate Road shut down several Baltimore Gas and Electric substations. Jared Littmann To Replace Silverman on City Council

Littmann, who owns K&B True Value Hardware, will replace first-term alderman Mathew Silverman who resigned earlier this month citing increased work obligations.

Jared Littmann, the owner of K&B True Value hardware store, is the next alderman for Ward 5 thanks to a 5-2 vote by the Annapolis Democratic Central Committee on Monday night. "I'm truly flattered," Littmann said. "Coming in here and listening to what each of the other three candidates had to say, I was very impressed." Littmann beat out former state senator John Giannetti, Arnold Smith and Tracy McGranaghan for the job. The hearing took about two hours, but deliberations took less than 10 minutes and were conducted in a closed session at the Pip Moyer Recreation Center. About 30 people showed up for the appointment hearing, which was triggered when first-term alderman Mathew Silverman resigned on Nov. 30. Silverman said increased …
