Mexican Cafe Demolished

Crews knocked down the building on Bay Ridge Road.

It's the day that locals have dreaded since Sept. 28, which was the last day of operation for the Mexican Cafe on Bay Ridge Road. The building was knocked down the morning of Oct. 15, making drivers slow as they passed and causing some to pull over and take photos. The opening date for the new Mexican Cafe location at 609 Melvin Ave. in West Annapolis has not been formally announced. Owner Pam Gladfelter previously told Greater Annapolis Patch that the new restaurant will likely open in November. In the meantime, the Mexican Cafe TO GO location remains open for business.

I just drove by there this evening but due to the horror of boat show traffic didn't even notice the building was down! There are a lot of locals drowning their sorrows in sub-par margaritas, I'm sure, while they wait for the new location to open. What a thrill that a CVS will be taking its place...   more ›

Ode to the Mexican Cafe

Last call on Taco Tuesday at the beloved little shack on Bay Ridge Road.

Today is the last day the Mexican Cafe will receive customers at its Bay Ridge Road location — thank goodness it's also Taco Tuesday so you can get tacos for as little as a $1.50. It looks like it might clear up and be a nice afternoon and evening to spend on the deck one last time. Although owner Pam Gladfelter is excited to open the new location in West Annapolis, she's also feeling a range of emotions about closing the "little Tijuana building" that opened on Dec. 26, 1992.  I'm feeling a wave of nostalgia too because the Mexican Cafe is leaving Greater Annapolis Patch.
