Big Plans for Ballet Theatre of Maryland's 2011/2012 Season (Part 1)

The Ballet Theatre of Maryland (BTM) has lots on tap for the coming season - an adventurous program of classical and contemporary, old favorites and new. This weekend, the company will be performing excerpts from Romeo and Juliet and Excalibur at the Maryland Renaissance Festival. All three days, BTM is scheduled on the Royal Stage at noon.  From medieval times to present, the public is invited to celebrate a very big milestone for BTM: On Sept. 17, BTM will be hosting the Grand Opening of their new studios, located off of Moreland Parkway. This ribbon-cutting celebration will be officiated by Mayor Joshua Cohen, with Alderwoman Classie Hoyle also attending. School is back a session and families with preschoolers will enjoy a lesson in preparing their own snacks.

We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children. Each week, we'll give you the info on the five best family activities or events for the week. We know you're busy, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable driving distance. Look for the kids’ planner each week, and help us build the planner with your own suggestions and tips—just add them to the comment box. Even if you disagree with our picks, let us know.
