City Offers Education Session on Ballot Questions

An informational meeting on 20 ballot questions facing Annapolis voters this November will be held at City Hall on Wednesday evening.

The city will host an in-depth look at November's six-page ballot and how each of the 20 ballot questions affect residents on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in City Council chambers. "I looked at my own ballot, and I thought something needs to be done to ensure people understand what all this means," said Alderwoman Shelia Finlayson (D-4th Ward), who organized the event. The two-hour discussion will include input from both Republicans and Democrats from the city, county and state.  In November, Anne Arundel County Council approved 15 county charter amendments that residents will have to vote on this November in order for them to be approved. Maryland also has five questions of its own on the ballot about gay marriage, gambling, redistricting, removal…

Aldermen Question Whether Firefighters Need T-Shirt License

Annapolis City Council members questioned whether Mayor Josh Cohen was right to ask the firefighters' union to obtain a solicitors license to sell its breast cancer fundraiser T-shirts.

City Council members questioned Mayor Josh Cohen about whether the city was justified in asking the firefighters' union to obtain a solicitors license to sell its breast cancer fundraiser T-shirts. The union is selling the shirts throughout October at the fire house at 620 Taylor Ave. for $12. All the proceeds go to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The city sent a letter to the union on Sept. 28, saying its members were soliciting donations without a license. "They are not going to door to door soliciting funds; they are an agency of the city. I don’t understand how we impose that on our own fire department," Alderwoman Sheila Finlayson (D-4th Ward) said. "I think we are interceding on something that really isn’t ours to intercede on…

I've been meaning to go down and buy a t-shirt to support our firefighters and their charity, and hearing that they're supposed to get a license means I'm gonna by a couple t-shirts. They're not out going door to door ad have from the onset made it clear the shirts can only be bought in their firehouses. What's next, making enterprising kids get licenses to setup a lemonade stand? Ugh...   more ›

City Council Postpones Kingsport Garden Project

At the meeting Monday, the council opted to create a committee made up of community representatives to design a new look for the proposed garden.

The creation of a controversial community garden in Kingsport Park was pushed back a year by the Annapolis City Council on Monday night. Alderwoman Sheila Finlayson (D-Ward 4) said she proposed delaying the project after meeting with the Kingsport Community Association.  "I’m going to invite two residents from each of the surrounding communities and they will come together over the next year to help design what this park will look like ... so that the community will have more input," Finlayson said.   At the council's May meeting, two Kingsport residents urged the council to delay the project. "This item—there's a lot of misinformation out there," Margaret Kai-Zeigler said at May's meeting. "The misinformation has caused a real schism in …

Mr. Bunker, It appears as if you have deleted the information listed on the causes.com page where Grow Annapolis was asking for donations of up to $30,000. Not to worry, it was expected that you behave this way and a permanent memorialization of that page has been made... for safe keeping of course. Oh, the exact time that you deleted that page, along with the exact time that the page was …   more ›
