Annapolis Wants Input on Creating Downtown Taxi Stands

The city's transportation board is thinking about creating a taxi stand along Newman Street to serve downtown and the Marriott hotel.

Visitors to Pusser's Caribbean Grille may soon be able to cross the street to catch a cab because Annapolis is considering adding a taxi stand on Newman Street near the playground. The city's transportation board announced it will hold a hearing for public commentary on the creation of a Newman Street taxi stand on Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. in the City Council chambers. "This is really the first step," said Iain Banks, a city parking specialist. "The board will come up with a recommendation and submit it to City Council." Unlike the 24-hour taxi stand near O'Brien's on Main Street, this stand would create two additional parking spaces downtown, Banks said.
