Annapolis firefighters safely extracted the people whose car had wires laying across it.
UPDATE: (12 p.m.)—Three people were trapped inside a car in the 200 block of West Street after electrical wires fell on top of their vehicle, according to the Annapolis Fire Department. Emergency crews shut down a portion of West Street around 10 a.m. on Tuesday as they worked to safely extract the people from the car, Battalion Chief John Menassa said. "We are going to assume the wires are live until we can verify they are not," Menassa said. Someone replaced a man's rear passenger tire with a concrete block while he ate dinner at a nearby restaurant.
An Annapolis man had the rear passenger tire stolen off his company car in the 100 block of West Street on Christmas, according to city police. He told police that he parked his red 2006 Dodge Charger around 6 p.m. to go eat dinner at a nearby restaurant. When he returned at about 10:30 p.m., he found a concrete block in place of the rear passenger tire. Police valued the tire and the 18-inch rim at $280, but they were unable to process the scene for prints because the man had already starting putting on the spare tire when officers arrived.

Maine Cottage opened its colorful doors on West Street this weekend.
Maine Cottage, a coastal living furniture store, has opened the doors to its new location at 209 West St. in Annapolis. The store moved to downtown from its previous location in Severna Park to increase exposure and expand the store's brand, said owner Kevin Russell. He pointed to a "color bar" in the new showroom where 60 paint swatches will hang on the wall next to an array of fabric swatches. "The designers will be able to sit down with the client at the bar and actually create their own spaces," Russell said. "We just did not have the room to do this in our old location." Russell started the business, then known as Russell & Mackenna, in his garage in Severna Park 10 years ago "just building small things around the house, and it kept …

The frozen dessert shop had planned a late September opening on West Street.
The owners of a new frozen dessert shop called Tasti-D-Lite have postponed the store's opening indefinitely. "Unfortunately the store has been put on hold by the owner," said Mary Templin, who was slated to be the store's manager. The store was intially scheduled to open at 40 West St. by the third week of September. Templin managed the Tasti D-Lite in Severna Park for Ben Pascal—who owns the new Annapolis location. The Severna Park location opened in May 2011, but it closed its doors about a year later. Templin didn't say when the West Street store would open. Were you looking forward to Tasti D-Lite's opening?

New equipment being installed at a substation caused an outage for approximately 5,000 Annapolis residents, said a BGE spokesperson.
About 5,000 Annapolis-area residents lost power Thursday between approximately 11:30 a.m. and 12:40 p.m. after Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) installed some new equipment. "We were putting in some new equipment at one of our substations," said BGE spokesperson Rachael Lighty. "So power was lost to about 5,000 customers in the Annapolis area." According to the Annapolis Police Department's Twitter feed, officers directed traffic at Main, Conduit and Duke of Gloucester streets downtown until traffic lights became operational again. Traffic lights were also out on Forest and Bywater roads, Gemini Drive, Hilltop Lane and Spa Road, according to Annapolis police. All service was restored as of 12:40 p.m. Thursday, according to Lighty.
