The Anne Arundel County Reading Council recognized the short stories of local students from Hillsmere Elementary, St. Martin's Lutheran School and Wiley H. Bates Middle School.
The Anne Arundel County Reading Council recently recognized 54 students—including four from Annapolis schools—for their talents as storytellers, poets and essayists. The council received more than 1,000 entries. The four winners from Annapolis schools included: The 22 first- and second-place entries will go on to be judged at the state level. Anne Arundel County honored the high school writers at a reception on Thursday, and the younger writers will be honored in April. Click here to see a list of all the winners in the county.
The Friends of Quiet Waters held a reception for the artists from the Bates Middle School arts magnet program.
The student artists participating in the latest art show in the galleries of Quiet Waters Park were highlighted at an artists’ reception Sunday afternoon. The show, The Greatest Show on Earth—Art Students of the Performing and Visual Arts magnet school at Wiley H. Bates Middle School, started on Jan. 5. The show runs through Feb. 19. “The mission of the student exhibition is to spotlight the best artwork in varied mediums of the students enrolled in the Bates magnet school art program,” said Frances Borchardt of the Friends of Quiet Waters Park in a release. She said there are more than 60 works of art on display.
The list includes roughly 337 students.
