Weather Service Warns of Tornadoes, Hail Friday
Two waves of storms could hit the area, bringing heavy winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a tornado watch for a large portion of Maryland, including all of Anne Arundel County, through 9 p.m. Friday. The NWS said scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will move from Northern Virginia into Maryland late this afternoon—bringing strong winds, large hail and the potential for isolated tornadoes. The service said the storms could come in two waves, the first expected to pass through the area by 6 p.m. A second round of severe weather is expected to come between 6 and 8 p.m., reaching the Chesapeake Bay by about 9 p.m. The weather service said residents should prepare for severe weather anytime between this afternoon and midnight.
