Patch checked in with some of the new businesses that opened in Annapolis during 2012.
Sweet Hearts Patisserie: The French-themed pastry shop opened at 1410 Forest Dr. in Clock Tower Place in May of 2012, and owner Kristen D'Angelo said she's had a steady stream of customers ever since. "I guess I've learned that there's a lot of people looking for baked goods in Annapolis," D'Angelo said. "We have really steady customers, so I would say people here are really loyal." The shop specializes in sweet treats like macaroons, petit fours and cake pops. D'Angelo said she dabbled in baked breads when the shop first opened because area residents responded to a customer survey saying they would like fresh bread from an area bakery. "A lot of the things (like the baked bread) that people asked for that we did try and accommodate didn't…

Mark and Missy Maglin fell in love with My Favorite Muffin while stationed in Texas and decided to bring one to downtown Annapolis.
A new muffin, bagel and sandwich shop called My Favorite Muffin opened its doors at 138 Main St. for the first time on Thursday. Co-owners Mark and Missy Maglin fell in love with the franchise when her husband's job moved them to Texas. "We were living there when my husband was stationed in Corpus Christi," Missy Maglin said. "We really liked the product, and we really liked the concept." Mark Maglin is a Naval Academy graduate from the Class of 1988, and the now retired commander spent his life in the military. Missy Maglin said her husband's job had them moving around every few years, but they always kept the idea of owning a muffin franchise in the back of their minds. When her husband retired to civilian life this February, the couple…

My Favorite Muffin's owner said she hopes to open the doors at her Main Street location in Annapolis by Labor Day.
A national restaurant franchise that specializes in muffins plans to open in downtown Annapolis next month. "We hope to be up and running the week of Labor Day," said owner Missy Maglin. My Favorite Muffin is under construction at 138 Main St. where Yofiore Yogurt Shop was located. The sign out front hasn't changed yet, but construction crews have been working for weeks to transform the interior. The store—which I used to frequent when I in Nevada—will sell muffins, bagels, coffee, smoothies and sandwiches. Maglin said the store also will have a wireless Internet connection for its customers. Right now, My Favorite Muffin needs to hire bakers, sandwich makers, cashiers and an assistant manager. People who are interested in applying can …

The franchised bakery is currently under construction on Main Street.
Downtown Annapolis will soon have a new bakery on Main Street. My Favorite Muffin is currently renovating the inside of 138 Main St. where Yofiore Yogurt used to be. My Favorite Muffin's parent company BAB, Inc. couldn't confirm when the shop will open because its locations are franchised and the store still doesn't have a working phone line. This editor hopes it will be soon. I'll confess to loving My Favorite Muffin when I lived in Nevada. The shop I frequented in downtown Reno had a wide selection of sweet and savory muffins in both large and bite size. I mean who doesn't love an assortment of miniature muffins? It also served bagels, smoothies and coffee. My personal favorite menu item was the bagel salad. If this place has WiFi, you …
