On the article City Council Participates in Team Building Workshop

Hi Kyle,
To your second question, given the current political landscape (at every level of government), I'd say teamwork and putting differences aside are near the bottom of the list of a politician's characteristics.
I was there for the first half of the workshop (from 9a.m. to about 12). It wasn't so much an information session where "strategies for communication" were relayed to the council members, but rather more of an opportunity for the council members to interact in a non-council chambers setting. They discussed things that inspired each of them, what motivated them, and did an exercise to figure out what their core characteristics are, and had frank face-to-face discussions about contentious things, like the recent Market House vote (as written in the article).
Hope this helps.

There is actually an additional pad site available on the corner of Edgewood Rd. and Bay Ridge Road, which may be the one you are referencing. The proposed gas station would sit on Bay Ridge Ave. almost halfway between the Edgewood Rd. and Georgetown Rd. intersections, next to the Wachovia Bank. If anything, its slightly closer to Georgetown Rd. then it is to Edgewood Rd.

Hi "Stopthe Insan It-T"
Just to clarify, this gas station would be owned and operated by Giant, not a local businessperson. They would most likely be supplied by one of the large energy companies (i.e. Shell, Exxon etc), but the gas station itself would not be locally owned.
Thanks everyone for their input. A good public discourse is important.

Hi Barbara,
Thanks for your comments! The project falls under the jurisdiction of the City of Annapolis, therefore the city's Planning Commission is the group that has say on whether or not the project goes forward. I'm not positive, but I believe the county would therefore have little (if any) say in the proposal.
In regards to your question about a traffic study, at their meeting with Fairwinds residents, the developers said they performed a traffic study and claimed no substantial increases would occur. However, I'm not sure if the city performed any sort of traffic analysis.
The planning commission will discuss the issue January 6th at 7:30 in the City Council Chambers, if you'd like to make your voice heard.

ReplyHi Dotty,
Thanks for your input! Penn National does own a majority share of the Maryland Jockey Club. Effective July 1, they went into a joint venture to own and operate the Maryland Jockey Club, and its real estate, with MI Developments Inc.
If you're at all interested, you can find it laid out in Penn National's most recent quarterly report here: http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=120420&p=irol-sec

Hi Janet.
Point taken on providing a link to the actual budget. I should have embedded it into the article. While I didn't compare the city's garbage rates to the county's rates, I did point out that service would be cut back to once a week.
Thanks for your comments and for reading Patch.
