ANNAPOLIS, MD - Jongro Korean BBQ is now open at the Westfield Annapolis mall after months of anticipation. Like other Korean barbecue restaurants, customers cook their meals at grills in the center of their tables.
Patch first saw that the eatery was coming in January. Jongro held its soft opening Saturday. The grand opening was Monday.
Jongro is located outside the food court and beneath the movie theater. The new restaurant fills the vacancy left by Red Robin, Naptown Scoop reported.
"There were a couple challenges that we faced in getting here, but I look forward to seeing what the future holds for Jongro and embracing new opportunities," Manager YoonSu Heo told Patch in an email. "We believe that Annapolis mall is an integral part of the community and a prime location for the first Korean BBQ in the area."
Jongro spans 5,000 square feet and seats 28 to 35 people. There are 15 to 20 employees.
Jongro's website says it is a chain in South Korea. The first U.S. location opened in 2015 in New York City's Koreatown.
The Annapolis ownership group has one other location in Montgomery County's Westfield Wheaton mall.
The same ownership group also owns Seoul Blues Coffee & Dessert, which is across from the Annapolis Jongro. That cafe opened in late April.
Jongro is open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
